Firefox 2.0
Wednesday, 25 October 2006

Firefox 2.0 has been released and is now available for download.  I haven't really checked out the new improvements yet, but at first glance it seems a little more polished, a little faster maybe too.  Wow, there really are a lot of new features packed into this sucker, spell check, improvements to the tabbed browsing features... I'm impressed!

Thanksgiving Dinner
Sunday, 08 October 2006

Yesterday we went to my parents place in Beaverton for the day, for Thanksgiving dinner.  We had a good time, other than Susie's back being really bad and her having to lay down for a while, and we had to cut the day short around 7:00 because she was in too much pain to stay.  Dinner was good, I guess I was hungry, I don't really remember eating it...I just remember that my plate was empty around the same time everyone else was just digging in.. Cool

Dessert was hilarious, though.  My Mom made this banana bread/cake, and it was out in the back room on the table, under a silver cake cover thing.  After dinner when she was going to get it, Nicholas said "Oh, I'm sorry Grandma I just had four bites."  My Dad, thinking he was talking about his dinner (he didn't eat a whole lot, but it was more than four bites) said "Oh big deal!".  Then my mother lifts the lid on the cake and there's four big 4-year-old-hand sized chunks pulled off the circle!  Hey, he loves bananas.  At least he was honest about it before anyone even noticed.  What a kid.

Stop Talking to Machines and Talk to a Real Human
Wednesday, 27 September 2006

Are you tired of trying to navigate corporate voice mail and/or phone systems, in a vain attempt to talk to a real, live human being?  This is a really neat idea, I just found this site posted on a forum that I visit.  I might just have to try this out sometime!  Not a lot of Canadian companies listed so far, hopefully there will be more.

It's called BRINGO.  Here's the basic idea, as taken from the site's homepage:

Tired of dialing 1-800 numbers and not being able to get through to a human who can help you?

BRINGO cuts through all of that so you don't have to. That's right, BRINGO has conquered phone trees.

Here's how it works:

  1. Find the company you'd like to call by category (credit cards, mortgages, loans, health care)
  2. Enter your phone # (we will never disclose your phone number to anyone, not even your mother!).
  3. Wait a few seconds while we navigate the phone tree.
  4. When we call you back, pick up your phone and you're done. No more phone trees.
